Why Smart Irrigation Matters (and How to Set Your Timer)

Proper watering helps plants develop deep roots, keeps lawns green during hot weather, and prevents both over-watering and water waste. With a simple irrigation timer, you can take the guesswork out of watering and ensure your plants get exactly what they need—even when you’re not home.

How to Set Up Your Irrigation Timer

The Orbit 1-Outlet Programmable Hose Faucet Timer is a user-friendly device designed to automate your outdoor watering schedule for lawns, gardens, and flower beds.

1. SET CLOCK

  • Turn the dial to SET CLOCK.

  • Push the dial to set the hour, push again to set minutes, and again to set AM/PM.

2. START TIME

  • Turn the dial to START TIME.

  • Set the time you want watering to begin (use the same push-dial method for hour/minutes/AM/PM).

3. HOW LONG

  • Turn the dial to HOW LONG.

  • Turn the dial to set the watering duration in minutes.

4. HOW OFTEN

  • Turn the dial to HOW OFTEN.

  • Select how frequently watering should occur (every 6 hours to every 7 days).

  • Push the dial when done.

5. AUTO

  • Switch the dial to AUTO to run your program automatically.

Our Recommended Setting

We suggest 10 minutes every other day or every day, depending on your landscape. Be sure to adjust for weather conditions like extreme heat, drought, or heavy rain to keep your plants healthy and conserve water.
